Description

The wines of Proprietor Fabio Chiarelloto are some of the most highly praised coming out of Tuscany. The 2020 A Quo is an absolutely gorgeous offering from Montepeloso. The 2020 vintage leans most heavily(about 65-70% of the blend) on Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, enhanced with smaller amounts of Montepulciano, Marselan and Alicante Bouchet. Grapes are from his younger vineyards (6 to 12 years of age). Fruit is all hand-picked and sorted, undergoes a temperature controlled fermentation with a maceration that lasts between 5 and 22 days (depending on variety). The wine ages in French oak barrels of various sizes (15% new) for 7 months, with a further 4 months in bottle before being put on the market.

The wine exhibits a dark bright colour. The nose is dominated by dark red fruits, with herbal and mineral notes. The palate shows nice tension with expressions of black fruits and forest floor, all in a mid-weight, exuberant style that is so appealing.

Drink now or cellar for up to 10 years. Enjoy with red and white meats, pasta and hard cheeses.

“The 2020 A Quo is an absolutely gorgeous entry-level offering from Montepeloso. It provides generous red berry fruit, crush flowers, mint, blood orange and leather, all in a mid-weight exuberant style that is so appealing. Drink it over the next decade.” Score 91, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

“Lovely, fruity red with cherries, berries and some stone and sandalwood. It’s full and soft-textured with round tannins.” Score 93, James Suckling
