Silvano Bolmida

Silvano Bolmida is an exciting new discovery in the Barolo area of Piedmont. Silvano along with children Francesco and Allessandra are making beautiful wines from their own vineyards, mostly in Bussia. The wines they make are unique, but unmistakably Barolo.

Aside from extreme cleanliness, Silvano differs from other wineries in his use of both extended post fermentation maceration and the use of French barriques. In an era where macerating for 30 days is considered quite traditional, he leaves the wine on its skins for up to 95 days. But he lets his wine age in 100% French Barriques for the first year, though none of it new. This is different than the large botti so commonly used by the so-called traditionalists.

These are stunning and unique wines that represent great value in the ever escalating Barolo zone. Bussia is one of the largest “Cru” vineyards in Barolo. Accordingly there is quite a good deal of style and quality variation as one moves from section to section. Silvano’s section is the highest in altitude, giving his wines an elegance rarely found.
